Root Canal

Often times a tooth will decay to the point where a root canal is required. Inside the tooth is a soft layer known as “pulp” which contains blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue.

When the teeth grow and develop, the pulp is responsible for nourishment. However, sometimes pulp can become infected, damaged, or decayed. This can happen for several reasons, like deep tooth decay, repeated or faulty dental procedures, or cracks and chips. If this condition is left untreated, it can lead to infections, pain and abscesses.

During a Root Canal the infected pulp is removed from the tooth, and the remaining space is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. It is then filled and sealed. Composite fillings are also used to provide an additional layer of protection. In many circumstances a root canal is the only way to save the natural tooth. Keeping the natural tooth has many advantages, including more efficient chewing, normal biting sensations and force, and a more natural appearance. Your teeth will function like normal, and the process can usually be completed in one office visit, depending on the severity of the infection. We ensure that all patients are as comfortable as possible before, during, and after the procedure. You’ll be able to maintain your natural smile and continue enjoying the foods and drinks you love.
