Extractions

Teeth are permanent and meant to last for a lifetime, but there are many situations where an extraction is necessary. The most common is a tooth with significant damage or decay, and is unable to be repaired with fillings or other treatments.

There are two types of extractions we specialize in here at Hi Dental–surgical and simple. Simple extractions are done on teeth that can be seen in the mouth. We loosen the tooth with an instrument called an elevator, and use forceps to complete the extraction. It is generally a painless and quick procedure. It is also the most common type of tooth extraction. Surgical extractions are more complex, and are done on teeth that sit below the gum line. A small incision is made and the broken or impacted teeth are removed. We do everything we can to save existing teeth, but sometimes an extraction is the only answer.

The most common reasons for tooth extraction include teeth that block other teeth from filling in, impacted wisdom teeth, significant damage or decay, etc. Usually this procedure is very simple and can be completed pain-free under local anesthesia. Usually removing a tooth is the last resort, but we provide professional advice to patients and inform them of their various options.
